Joe Drury teaches courses on Restoration, eighteenth-century and Romantic British literature. He has a particular interest in cultural studies, the history of gender and sexuality, and the relationship between literary form and the history of science and technology. He is currently working on a book, The Machine in the Novel: Science, Technology, and Narrative Form in Eighteenth-Century Britain, which explores the ways in which the rise of the machine in pre-industrial Britain drove formal innovation in the narrative fiction of the period.
